Resistance and Capacitance codes
These are the codes used for resistor values..
First the colour codes...
B - Black 0
B - Brown 1
R - Red 2
O - Orange 3
Y - Yellow 4
G - Green 5
B - Blue 6
V - Violet 7
G - Grey 8
W - White 9
And its like, We read the first three colours, the fourth colour is for tolerance. The way to determine which side to start is, first colour cant be golden or silver or no colour. So, once you go to know the first three colours, get the numbers. If its like, ABC. Then the value of resistance is AB X 10^C. For example, if the code is Brown, Black and Orange, it would be, 1, 0, and 3. Hence the value of resistance will be 10 X 10^3, i.e. 10K.
For tolerance I dont remember excatly at the moment, I'll update as soon as I confirm. What I remember, its like, golden for 5%, silver for 10% and no colour for 20%. Most probably its true, but I'll confirm.
This was for reading the values from resistors. But thee are also ways to write values in shortcut. Like, XRY, where X and Y are some digits. For XRY, the value of resistance is X.Y ohm. For example, for 51R, value is 51 ohm. For 5R4, value is 5.4 ohm. For R43, value is 0.43 ohm. Similarly, there is XKY, where we get value in kilo ohms and XMY, where we get value is mega ohm. SO, 4K7 means 4.7K ohm and 1M0 means 1 mega ohm.
Now lets move on to capacitors.
First lemme discuss values witten on the capacitor. I dunno much about which code for what kind of capacitor. By kind of capacitor I mean ceramic or tantal or blah blah blah. I'll update as soon as I find that. Fine, first of all, for those little capacitors, they have three digits written on them. If it is ABC, then the value is AB X 10^C pF. Like for 104, its 10 X 10^4 pF, i.e. 0.1uF or 100nF. These are for those small circular kinda capacitors.
The are also capacitor known as volume capacitors /* most probably*/. They also have three digits written on the top. For them its like, for ABC, its ABC pF. Like for 331, its 331pF. These capacitors, unlike the previous one, are kinda cylindrical. The one which I talked about earlier were kinda circular.
Next there are some codes like 2A102K. I dont excatly know what does 2A stand for, and actually not even for K. like, for this one, the value is 10 X 10^2 pF, i.e. 1 nF. For 2A472K, its 47 X 10^2, i.e. 4.7nF.
There are some other codes like, ABCJ, where ABC are some digits. AB X 10^C pF. Like for 223J, its 22 X 10^3 pF, i.e. 22nF or 0.022uF.
Bigger capacitors have the value written on them.
Apart from the value, these components have current and voltage rating, respectively. I mean, resistor have current rating, which signifies how much maximum current it can allow. It is usualy not written on the resistor, you will have to ask the shopkeeper, though I am not sure whether even he knows this or not. But I am sure about, the bulkier resistors support more current as compared to smaller ones.
Likewise, the capacitors have voltage rating, means how much maximum voltage across it can be tolerated. Bulkier capacitors have rating written on them. And if we consider a particular type of capacitor, then the size of capacitor increases with capacitance value, and also with voltage rating.
That's it for the moment. I'll keep updating this post with my new findings. And I hope I write some more interesting posts soon. At present, busy with the circuits, that's why writing such post at the moment.
Any ways, we can't forget our FIND OF THE DAY : An engineer always has more than one way to solve any problem. He always selcts the one more complicated, and end up messing everything.:P

Mechanistic determinism [1]
After the discussion, there was this line..
"This conclusion underlies the once popular philosophy of mechanistic determinism, according to which the universe is nothing more than a gigantic machine whose future is inexorably fixed by its state at any given moment."
I have a lot to discuss about this deterministic and stuff...
I already have two posts somewhat related to the above mentioned subject : My unified theory of so-called living and non-living and Future prediction possible : what do you "think"??
I don't think I would like to type everything in one go, neither you are gonna appreciate that. So, lemme take it in small modules /* what??? am I taking lectures in some course or what??? */ Whatever... today, I am going to write about randomness.
I guess the only thing which can differentiate living beings from non-living beings is randomness, if it is at all there. I have written a bit about it in the latter post of the two mentioned above. Fine, if we consider only non-living things, the things which are popularly called non-living. I don't think there is any thing random in there. The way they react are pretty well defined by the laws. Maybe a few more laws need to be discovered. Maybe these are suffice. Things seem to be random, but they actually are not. If we are not able to predict the behaviour of a system, its behaviour is random for us. Such systems behave in arbitrary way from our point of view. But they actually follow some laws and behave in some particular way only. Hence, if we get to know how things behave, we can predict and bingo...they are no more random.
Like there is some function in C programming language, it is called random().It is used to get some random number. But obviously, it is based on some algorithm. It does not has a free will to give an absolutely random number. It mainly do some calculations on number of clock ticks and bits stored somewhere in RAM /*not sure about this though*/. So, the number it returns depends on the RAM status, CPU clock ticks completed and stuff. So, even if we know the algorithm, which is not much difficult, its not so simple to keep track of number of CPU clock ticks, memory and all. Hence it is virtually impossible to get to know about the number the function is going to return. But it is possible, I guess you must also agree.
This was just an illustration, I guess poorly explained, but I hope you got the idea what I actually want to say. Non-living things are not random. Their behaviour is deterministic. If the universe is made up of non-living stuff only, it is deterministic.
Now we do find behaviour of living beings random. I guess if a system behaves in two different ways given exactly same conditions, then it is random. I would really be happy to find such a system. Even if we consider some living being, in a thought experiment, if we take a being and put it exactly same conditions twice, it will behave essentially in the same way. I am not able to support the view that the two results will be different. I don't think they will be different. But this makes me non-living, I am not happy... :(. I don't think its of any use to be living if you don't have randomness.. or we can refer to it as freewill. If you don't have a freewill, what's the fun in being living???
Fine, at this moment, I am pretty sure about... behaviour of non-living things is not random. They don't have any freewill. Though I am not yet sure whether we have free will or not, but I am sure that, we are nothing better than a non-living thing if we don't have a freewill.
I have a few more thought experiment lined up, more discussion regarding the topic I will continue, this much is enough for today. And for such discussion posts, I'll have conclusion of the day's discussion as find of the day.
Find of the day : Non-living things are not random. The only thing which living beings can possess which can give them some edge over non-living is... randomness....or freewill.

The first steps...
It was around 1500hrs on 24th, saturday. Me, gautam, karan and aakash in the instrumentation technology lab. /* Great minds at work :P */ We were mainly trying to realise a stepper card and test our steper motor. /* If you dunno what it is, dun worry, lemme explain, briefly. Stepper motor is a kind of motor, which rotates in steps. The number of steps can be controlled, hence you can get a controlled rotatory motion. They are considered to be among the best options available for controlled motion. Now the stepper card, you can consider it as a sweet and simple electronic circuit with a few ICs, which helps you to control and drive the stepper motor. */
So, the great minds were busy in fabricating there own stepper card using the ICs in the lab. Well we did make a few alterantions, used a signal generator instead of a timer ciruit /* if u dun get it, fine, no probs, its not much important*/. Basically we wished to see the stepper motor rotating. It was our first experience with stepper motor. A few days back, we learnt the basic fund of the stepper card from a senior, but never saw it bieng implemented. Fine, I do possess some experience in electronic circuitery /* courtesy APOGGE 2006*/ and gautam had his junior college experience added to his APOGEE experience. We were pretty confident to get the first steps from our stepper motor. We prepared the requiered circuitery on the breadboard. Made a few checks for our shift register using LEDs. Corrected our circuit a bit. After that, connected our whole circuit with the stepper motor.
It must work.
Switched the signal generator on.
Adjusted its frequency and output voltage.
Switched on the power supply to our circuit.
It must work.
But obviously, it dint.
If you are a good programmmer, your program will never work as expected in the first run. If you are a good electonic enginner /* I guess, that's a better word than electricain :P */, your circuit will never work in the first run.
The behaviour of our circuit confirmed my statement.
We made a few checks, dint alterned anything in the circuit though. Switched it on, dint worked, repeated the cycle once or twice more. This time we were just analysing the circuit again, without switching it off.
I brought my face closer to the motor, heard some movement. Took the motor in hands, and hey, it was moving, though randomly. The random movement can be explained for we dint knew the sequence of the wires in the motor. So, those random movements meant our circuitery was working.
Bingo!!!
Our aim was also to find out the proper sequence of the wires of the motor, it was hit and trial /* alas, we dint get the datasheet for our motor on the net*/. Altered the wire sequence once, result, random motion. No problem, lets give another try. This time, we did succeed. The motion was unidirectional. Yeah!!!
But hey, we still dint get the result we expected. The motor was rotating in one direction, the speed was controlled by frequency we provided from the function generator. But there was this one thing...
As soon as someone comes close to it, it starts rotating and stops as soon as the person moves away. And within a minute, the motor showed its loyalty towards me. It was like... if I come close to the motor, if rotates, I move away, it stops. With the other three, its behaviour was rather random, but with me, it always did it like, rotates as I come close, stops as I move away. We did make sure that our movement donot affect the circuitery anyhow, but to our surprise, the stepper motor was workin as a sensory motor, being perfectly sensitive to me :P. We tried with other motor, it worked kinda o.k. initially, but after a minute or so, it followed the same trend. Our reaction... first of all, we were really really happy, we were actually able to rotate the motor in our first trial. And that behavoiur, well, I'll prefer saying, that loyal behaviour :P was astonishing us, more than it was worrying us.
Though, till the end of the day, we were not able to figure out the reason for its loyalty towards me, we were really happy.
Celebrated the evening in Sky /* for non-BITSian, its a really nice place to hang out, with Pappuji's Skylab close in, which is the only place were we do get some good burger and pizzas in pilani. */. One burger was not enough, but we soon realised that it was veg-grub in our mess that night /* for non-BITSian, veg-grub = some tasty food in mess*/. So the celebration lasted till night. But we had to sleep early, we had to leave for delhi the next morning.
FIND OF THE DAY : There is not much difference in Computer Science and Electronics. Neither a good program nor a good circuit works in the first run. :P

Hummfff... Presentation finally over.
We had to give a presentation on our report titled 'Recent Trends in Mobile Communication'. We had already submitted the report. I did start the work for presentation quite early. But then without a deadline nearing... it was really difficult, gave up in the middle. What's the fun in completing work when you dont even know when is the deadline. I guess I started off was more than enough.
This saturday, we thought it would be better if we ask our instructor regarding the deadline. So, we did go to class that day. Entered the classroom, it was 1200 hrs. Somehow were able to get through it. But one good thing did happen, we got our test 2 papers, my score was not bad, I can improve. Before leaving the room, we asked our sir...
Me and gautam : Sir, when are the presentations scheduled???
Sir : Today, and tomorrow, and next weekend.
Me and gautam : ( bit surprised and bit frightened ) Sir, can we give it tomorrow???
SIr : Check out your ID no., in the notice, you'll have to present accordingly.
Me and gautam : ( where the hell was the notice put up, we checked in the morning only) Fine sir. What time???
Sir : Today 2-4... tomorrow 3-5.
Me and gautam : (Baaghoooo.....)
We ran like anything. Just an hour... lunch.. what lunch??? we had presentation in an hour. I went to mess, those parathas were really tempting, thought once to take them in paper or something to the room, but they were too hot, had to satisfy with a few packets of biscuit and namkeen.
1304 hrs. Me sitting in front of gautam's lapT. Where's the ppt file??? yeah, the incomplete one. It took us over 200 seconds to find out /* we dint even remember the name of the file, google desktop search was of not much help*/. And mind it, in such situations, two hundred seconds does matter. Finally, opened that incomplete presentation. Copy paste from the report was the only option. Somehow completed the work in 70 minutes. But hey, it was not a submission, but a delivery. We had to present something. And yeah, it needs some preparation. But we dint had the time. Just took the presentation in gautam's mp3 player. I wish we had a hardcopy of the report /* on which the whole presentation was based */. But alas our wish was not fullfiled. All we did was to note down the topics and subtopics. On the way, we distributed the topics among ourselves. But we had the least idea about what matter was there under those topics. I guess we were really brave to go in with such preparation.
Entered the room 20 minutes late, that dint affect anyone though. One guy was presenting his thing. We discussed whether we should go next or later. I suggested later. But obviously, the day was not good, we were called next.
So, we began our presentation. Gautam started off. The other instructor threw a question straight away, but thank god, we were not that dumb. Gautam answered. That can be considered as a confidence booster :P. But after that, it wasn't so simple. The biggest trouble we both faced... before opening a slide, we had the least idea about what excatly was going to be there. And that copy paste scheme, without breaking the ideas in points, it really troubled us. After opening any slide, it was like, we were searching for some keyword on the slide to start off. That was bad. Sometimes we missed a point or two. Once, I skipped a point, sir promted, hey, you missed that last point. Thanks heaven, I knew the explaination for that thing. Else I was trying to skip a few things which I dint knew well :P. Another instance, sir asked for one thing, I dint excatly knew the answer, tried to blab a bit. But I was wrong. He explained me the thing there only. Fine, I changed the slide. And crap, the answer to his question was right there, had he not told me, I couldn't had realised that. He prompted, "hey, you do know the answer, its there on you slide." I was speechless :-|. This was among a few blunders we made.
While concluding, we made another. But it wasn't excatly our fault. Sir said to the audience i.e. the other students in the course, "why dont you ask any question?? Seems you people have signed some pact, none will ask any question, for everyone;s welfare" :P. At that, gautam promted, "Sir, we are second year students, we dont even know most of the people here". I dont excalty know what was in his mind while he said this, but I am pretty sure that he dint meant the way our instructors interpreted it. They said " It doesnt matter which year you are in. To succeed, you need to put hard work and dedication" . But hey hey hey, we were not giving an excus or something. Why was it interpreted that way????
Finally, he called the next group, we said 'phew' and took out seats. After attending that session, we returned and said "PHEW". So, it was over. I am not sure whether it was a good thing or a bad thing that it went this way, and was finally over... but one thing I am sure about is...

Finally some trees outta campus
Me and gautam were returning from library /* strange na... these two creatures close to that place */, but its true... we two were there indeed. It was saturday, library timing are till 1800 hrs only. It was around 1750 hrs. We were out of the library main building. But before the brain's command to proceed towards hostel could reach our feet, some other thing caught our attention. We saw a huge sturcture... distant... behind the trees. I had wondered many-a-times about what it was, and till date... I thought that it was a part of CEERI, Pilani.
Today, as we had nothing else to do, I suggested, " hey gautam, lets have a walk down there." The back entrance of CEERI was there only, quite close to library, but I had never been there.
We proceeded. That place was quite good. And as I had already mentioned, it was greener than our campus. Prime reason, no big hostels and stuff. The campus was quite big, we dint had that much time. And as it was the backgate, we landed up in the residential area. The main campus was a lil' far. Just strolled there for a lil' while. There was a lil' market kinda thing close to us. We saw a 'gen' store. Went there... asked the shopkeeper for all the varieties of candies he had. I guess, we wished to have a souvenir from the visit :P. Finally I settled for a pack of cofitos /* hey, i spelt it correctly in the first attempt*/ and gautam with a few chloromint and hajmola candies. And for your kind information, out of those ten cofitos, till now six have found a comfortable place in my stomach. Other two are gonna be there within next 15 minutes or so. The other two, they had to adjust in my friends' stomaches. Fine, let me declare officially... I love cofitos, I love coffee and though this one's going a bit far, but I must admit, I hate tea.
And by the way, the pack which I got today, seems its quite old, the taste it not like what I was lookin for, still.. as I said... I love cofitos.
FIND OF THE DAY : COFITOS still rocks!!!

Report submission : Task accomplished
Those two and a half days... we started the real thing saturday night. Had to submit the report by tuesday, 1200hrs. And I tell you, two and a half days are not enough to prepare a report of about 20-25 pages. But obviously, we realised it a bit late :P. But those two and a half days, we worked day and night, literally. This sweet lil' lapT of gautam, it was hit the worse. All those hours, continuosly, the work was on on the lapT, either me or gautam, all the time atleast one of us was on duty. It was only when we went for some meal, this AMD Turion 64 got lil' rest. Our sleeping shifts did get alter, we slept in small shifts of 3-4 hours. Thanks to our time table, dint attended a single class on monday /* though attended the movie show in the evening... fast and the furious 3 : tokyo drift.. it was really guuud.. nice music, sexy babes and ofcourse... super sexy machines */. Initially planned to get the report printed by monday evenings. Obviously we dint meet the deadline. Worked over the report monday night also. I declared the reported completed at 0940 hrs on tuesday /* that came after workin continously from 0430 hrs during that stretch, and yeah.. before that, gautam was on duty */. There was a slight possibility that we get it printed in the moring on tuesday, before 1200hrs, but got a bit lazy. Postponed it to evening. The stuff was ready, we just had to get it printed. But thanks heaven... we did get it printed in the evening and submited it. And as far as dealine is considered, we atleast submitted it on the same day. It was around 1640 hrs.. when I said...phew.
Time for a lil celebration... for the first time went to vyas redi... /* just in front of our bhawan, vyas bhawan, that's how it got its name */. Had my favourite sam chat... it tasted really good that time.
FIND OF THE DAY : I'm not totally useless! I can be used as a bad example.
PS : If you think that this useless stuff was a bit too much detailed leading to boredome... i'll say, i agree... but who cares :P

BITS against reservation
New Delhi : In a major setback to the anti-quota campaign, private unaided institutes like BITS Pilani, Manipal and Symbiosis on Thursday unanimously agreed to implement the 27% reservations for OBCs....
It was kinda shocking to read that stuff. We all were wondering how all these private institutes so easily agreed. But it was stated in a leading daily and we had no other option but to accept the fact. I had to study for my chemistry viva that time, but obviously this matter replaced my thoughts. I was just thinking that if our institute has already agreed to it, what can we do. I was really disappointed.
1217hrs, came back from practicals. Though according to prior plans I must had been in bank that time but thanks to state wide bank strike, I was in hostel that time. Checked my bitsmail /* we have been given mail accounts by the insti */. Subject of one of the recent mails read like "BITS Pilani & Reservation Issue". Immediately clicked on it. We were three people that time in the room. All of us anxiously waited for the mail to open /* wait lasted for around 1 second or so, but yeah, it was a small but anxious wait, atleast for me */. A smile replaced the anxiety as we read on. It was like...
Deemed universities back Arjun on quota; BITS opposes
A group of deemed universities including some prestigious ones today backed HRD Minister Arjun Singh's move for reservation in unaided institutes but BITS, Pilani, strongly opposed it. BITS, Pilani was invited but could not attend the meeting... This mail really comforted us all. For more details.. http://www.newkerala.com/news4.php?action=fullnews&id=41203
You might be thinking what is this newkerala... even I dunno, but I know one thing, that BITS is still against reservation. I am happy :) Though not sure whether BITS will be able to resist in future or not, but I am happy, it is atleast resisting. Don't have much time right now, will write more later. And I guess I must take care to write within my limits, am a bit worried, heard a lot about a few blogs being blocked.

Oasis 2006 : Day three and four
But third day, it really rocked. I guess it was the best day among the four. Got up a bit early that day /* yeah, 0800 hrs is an early hour*/ to attend rocktaves finals. But as I told you before, they were cancelled. That was disappointing. But then RAZZMATAZ came to our rescue. It was preponed, and I guess I was lucky enough to know that well in time. I did message many of my friends but most of them were late to the show. I enjoyed the whole show. That was awesome. These DU girls, they dance so well. Ok, the male participants, they were also really great. It really set the pace for the day. It was up by afternoon, leaving us for a long anxious wait for the prof show, which were scheduled for 1800 hrs. We were all ready dot 1800 hrs, but as expected, they were postponed till 2000 hrs. We did had the option of DJ floor, but I was really tired. But coz of peer pressure, i was dragged to the dance floor. And yeah, the music was also too tempting to give up. Result : strained my body a bit more.
After that, we all geared up for the big thing.. the prof show. Actually, the first band in the list was MRIGYA, the replacement band, dint have much expectations from the band, which came all the way from New Delhi. But to amaze us all, they put up some really cool stuff. Their instrumentals were too sexy. The crowd never expected such a performance from a kal ka band, but man, they really set up the show. For the first time I am forced to use the word soulful with music. They played some sensible soulful stuff for the crowd. I guess I should move on, there's a bit too much redundancy of words /* thanks to my great vocabulary */.
The next band, INDIAN OCEAN, crowd had a lot of expectations from them. The environment setup by the previous band, it helped us to enjoy these fellows even more. They stood upto the expectations, and even better, as far as my expectations are considered. The next in line, MOKSHA, rock band. I am feeling sorry for them. They also played quite well. But lack of rocklovers in BITS , and the timings, they began at around 0330 hrs, it was too much physical taxation for budding rock lovers to attend this band at this hour. I successfully attended the whole show /*ended around 0500 hrs*/, I cant actuallly say that I enjoyed MOKSHA, but it wasnt their fault at all, I cant blame them. Yeah, you can put me in the category of budding rock lovers .That's it for day three. Went to sleep 0600 hrs in the morning.
Day four, the shortest day. Got up around 1000 hrs, not my fault, I could have slept longer had the power cut not been there. But the cut had such a bad timimgs, neither helped me in my sleep, nor waked me up for breakfast. Then indulged myself in cleaning my room /* read diwali ki safai */. Got ready, took lunch and geared up for the big event.... DumbC finals .. :P But alas, we dint perform upto our expectations. That one round, ruined all the show. Anyways, who cares /* actually I do a bit, it was this grand finale which dint allow us to leave for our home earlier, wasted atleast twelve hour on campus for that crap.*/
As soon as it was over, Oasis was over for us, gussed FashP and ValD /* validatory function*/ and returned back home.
Yeah, am home right now, till 25th.
Just one statement for home... its really nice to be home.

OASIS 2006 : Day two
But alas, our disappointment dint end there. We decided to guss Rocktaves /*rock competition*/ elims, to conserve our energy for the finals, but crap, finals were cancelled, I dont know the actual reason officially, so I guess I should not share, for it can be just a rumour.
But thanks heaven, Razzmataz/* hope its spelt correctly*/ came to our resque. These DU girls... they dance really sexy.
Actaully right now, dont have much time, cant elaborate it much.
In short, yesterday was disappoionted, coz of that Jal crap. Today also, after a not so good start, it picked up really well.
Lets see what Mirgya /* the substitute band*/, Indian Ocean and Moksha have in their kitty for us.
Hoping for the best, lemme sign off now.

Blogspot unblocked...
OASIS 2006 : Day one
The evening plans, Fusion and Tarang, the two really worth it music events. Though the scheduled time for Fusion was 1700hrs, but keeping up with the oasis traditions, it started sometime after 1800hrs. But that was a plus point for us, we would not have got the sit had it started on time, coz we also were keeping up with the BITSian tradition.. :P
Fusion... I really liked it, though dint watch the whole show, cause of some prior engagements /* read : evening milk in the mess*/. After that, we chose dance floor over the last few entries in Fusion.
The dance floor.. these four days, this is the only time we BITSians do get to do such stuff... dancing madly all over the place. Actually we kickstarted our steps on 'Red Bull' dance floor. Ours was the first group to rock their floor past evening.. reward... one can of Red Bull to each one of us. Though my previous encounter with the Red Bull was not that good, last Oasis also, two of our wingies got two cans by doing some crazy stuff there, and our whole wing helped those guys to empty those cans. But to my amazement, I drank the whole can of the energy drink, which supposidely tasted more like some cough syrup. May be I was really thirsty that moment... mayb now I do like a can full of cough syrup all at one time. Whatever the case maybe, I really enjoyed so called-drinking and dancing. After the kickstart, devoted next few hours to the DJ... it was great fun letting our footloose there.
But I was also worried for the other event, Tarang. Finally convinced the gang arounnd 2300 hrs to proceed towards the audi. And damn, we missed a great performance by KMC /* Kirori Mal College, Delhi*/. Attended the next few, then I was about to leave for my room, but other people also joined in, had a lil' of PET PUJA. Then for about next two hours, dint had much to do, none of us felt sleepy... just roamed around near the food stalls. Then as the RED BULL DJ packed up, we ten people sat in the middle of those lawns /*popularly known as M-lawns*/ and started playing Antakshri. Hey hey, in case you dint get what it means, sorry, but I dont know the english word for this game. For over 90 mins, sang numerous songs in our sweet and sexy voice. Once thought to compete with the outstees, but posponed the idea, and as expected, it never got implemented.

OASIS 2006 : Inaug
Finally after around 90-100 mins of so called 'boring' stuff, the real thing begin, which we all were waiting for. It was a really nice performance by Mime club, in between we had our dance club... even better, I must say. But junta was not happy for we have noticable delays in between the performances... it dint bothered me much.. I was just thinkin stuff like.. they need to adjust the lights and all... but still... many of us questioned if it was worth it.... with so much physical labour... to see one mime and three dance performances in three hours.... I would say YES... mayb I am being too optimistic... or mayb the other way... they are too lazy...:P
Next stop... Fusion and Tarang.. music events... missed both of them last time.. hopin for the best this time.
FIND OF THE DAY : Remember half the people you know are below average.
PS: Expecting a comment or two from one on those regular readers of my blogs :P
OASIS 2006 - Scintillations
For the beginnners, OASIS 2006, Scintillations... cultural fest of BITS Pilani, Pilani campus. Its really cool.. or I can say, its really hot.. cant decide at the moment... :P. 0000 hrs 16th oct '06 to 2359 hrs 19th oct '06, 96 hrs of non stop fun and masti. The whole campus.. it doesnt seem as if we are in pilani, and the biggest credit of this goes to outstees.. primely DU ki kudiyaan... :P Other major attractions... the prof shows.. this time, the big three are making all the way to pilani.. its JAL, INDIAN OCEAN and MOKSHA....music events... Tarang and Fusion, dance events.... Razzmataz and Choreo... stage plays... and one small event, but its really important for me, mayank and mohit, 'Isharon Hi Isharon Mein', its dumbcharades. There are three teams representing BITS, and he he.. we are one of them..... what are you thinkin??? big deal???? I know its not.. but cut the crap... we are participating.. got thru the elims held around a month back....so its somewhat a big deal... its gonna be my first participation in OASIS. Last year also I was a mere spectator in all the events.
I guess that's enuf for a pre-oasis post.. i have more to share... lets get on to next post for that.

Nap time...zzzzzz
This is Mr. Gautam, my sidee, this year, last year and I guess for coming two years also. If you are a regular visitor of my blog /* probability of which -> 0 */, you must have heard name of this guy quite often.

Mr. Mayank Agarwal, our dance master..., and ob, my ex-wingee

This is Mr. Shanky, as he is better known, very well known for his sleep and his apetite, my ex-wingee

So, this one... Mr.Karan Bathla, a species of its own... I'll need more time and preparation to write anything about him.. so, lets just postpone that task... my ex-psuedo-wingee... psuedo means, he actually was in the lower wing, but used his own room just for sleeping, rest of the time, he was our wingee...
And one more pic, this one is not really related to sleep but.... sheep... do you think there is any relation, actually even I dont think so, but I just prepared this image while I was thinkin about what to post, so, that one I guess I should post.
FIND OF THE DAY : A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory.
PS : These all snaps /* except for the last one, ob*/ are a part of our Sariska album, my maiden excursion trip last sem. /*Refer - Yo Sariska */. My sincere apologies in case I have hurt someone emotions... specially that sheep.... :P

Looooong Weekend
I really cant believe that I am blogging from hostel room.
I really wished to post on sunday... just wished to share the experience of my first morning walk in BITS. That was my first morning walk in around past 1280 days.. that's 3.5 yrs. But this one was quite different... defying the usual belief that one need to get up early for a morning walk.. we... four people.. me, gautam, karan and sumit... went for the morning walk after a night out. And the night... I have lotsa stuff there also to share.
Weekend began with quite unexpected things... hey.. first lemme define my weekend, its from saturday afternoon to monday evening. So, it started with me sleeping for over four hours, roughly 1500hrs to 1900 hrs, n mind it... I prefer night sleep only. Then as I got up... still half asleep, one fellow calls up
Mohit : Rishi, you coming for dumbcharades na...
Me : Coming for dumbcharades??? What do you mean?? Rishi aur dumbcharades competition??? What a combination!!!
Mohit : Hey, you promised to Mayank that you are coming
Me : When did I??? I just told him that HAS is organising dumbC competition this weekend
Mohit : You are comin.. we three are team.... get your dinner fast and come to my room... no further arguements
Hang up
Well I am still not able to figure out whether I 'promised' or not, but I found that competition bit more interesting that sitting on net with the ultra fast speed we get here in our rooms. I am not such a bad dumbC player... and my point strenghtened further as after 3 rounds our team was leading. But thanks to the organisers.... we missed it by 3 points coz of there carelessness. Obviously they were not going to rectify. After a great start but not so great ending in the competition... I left disheartened... went straight to IPC ( read computer labs... where we can access net). But crap... that day net speed there was even 'faster' that what we get in our rooms. Was just hopping from one system to another... hopin to get some system with a lil' slower speed.... Phone rang again
Karan : Where are you??
Me : IPC
Karan : Mafia tonight???
Me : Done, I am coming to your wing.
Hangs up
Again hopes rose for a better evening after a phone call. Btw, dont get confused.. lemme clarify. time was around 2300hrs. Then as usual.. it took some sincere efforts for the interested people to bring the uninterested ones in our category. After a short visit to ANC(all nigt canteen), we were in front of SAC (Student Activity Centre)... making our debut of the venue with mafia. Had a really nice session...
Decided to go back around 0330 hrs... but took its over 30 mins to achieve this task. FIND OF THE WEEKEND : I am still afraid of street dogs. Well, actually, I had a few more friends in my gang. Four of us... changed our route many a times to avoid those street dogs who were just trying to be friendly with us. Hey, this time... no literary device used... those creatures were nice to us... but we dint accept them followin us... we dint approve there effort to make physical contact with us. Still we dint shooo them away.. reason... heard the other gang of dogs barkin far off.. dint wish to loose our gang members... Some how managed to get away.. though this somehow does include four of us runnig like anything after heard a few of those creatures barking on each other.
Reached the room... relaxed ourselves with some laucha ( laughing and chatting). Then I deciced to sleep only after takin breakfast in the mess. By 0530 hrs.. only four of us left... decided to go on our maiden morning walk in BITS. I really enjoyed those 75 mins of walk. That does included sitting in ShivGanga for over 30-35 mins. Took breakfast at 0730 hrs. Then dint feel like sleeping.. that time I really wished I could post something... basically this all only. But I was kept waiting for over 66 hrs... its 0227 hrs, 27th sep, wednesday.. right now.
Nothing much eventful in the later part of the weelend.. sunday night was reserved for mobile telecommunication network.. my elective... got its test-1 tomorroow.. that's 28th... and physics practical today only.. just 8 and a half hours to go.In short... its been a long post... I better go to sleep now.
FIND OF THE DAY : Multitasking means screwing up many things at once.

2-1 begins...
2-1 ante second year, first sem. Ok ok, ante means means. Its a telegu word, one year in BITS, I have learnt a few telegu words, and one tamil song... suttum vizhi... we all are huge fan followers of that one. I really like this thing here, people from all over the country here together.
So, the new academic year begins, last sem result, satisfactory is really not the word, its was really quite better than my expectations.
Other unexpected things queued up... the elective which I and gautam registered for, least expected, we went on for 'Mobile Telecommunication and Networks', name is quite alluring na, thats was excatly the case with us, the result... we are the only two second year students registered for the course, rest are all third and fourth yearites, or maybe even M.E. students. So, we spent the first few days, just getting worried for the course, still didnt ever thought for substitution or stepping down. Lets see what we do excatly get out of it.
And I was supposed to blog frequently now, with gautam's lapT next door, but thats unexpected thing number three. The net speed, we always knew how poor it is in hostels, but I am not able to understand what problem is our connection having with google, its really impossible to access gmail, orkut or blogger from rooms. Other domains work quite well as compared to them.
The next thing I am gonna tell you about, its was actaully kinda expected, though never welcomed, I am having all four sons. Havnt yet met my room sons yet, not much interested actually.
Unexpected but always welcome thing, met one of my oldest pal today, he's currently in Indain Military Academy, I felt really great when I got to know that he got in there, that time actually I came in contact with him after an year or so, hence that was kinda big suprise or me, I was expecting him to join in some engineering college and suddenly go to know that he's there in the academy for past six months, amazement and happiness, I experienced a real good combination of the two.
No more expeccted and unexpected things for the day now, its time for... FIND OF THE DAY : I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.Friday, July 28, 2006

Yo Sariska!!
Then we proceeded and the surrounding got even better as we approached sariska.
After a lotta roaming around, thanks heaven, we did found a motel sort of thing to stay, which had in total 3 rooms, and we booked them all. Later on we realised that there was no need at all. Coz for the whole night, we were playing "Mafia", it's really a nice game. We enjoyed it the whole night. We planned to start our 'safari' at around 0800 hrs on sunday, so, took a little rest for 2 hrs and then checked out.
We reached our destination at 0800 sharp. So, this was the thing we were waiting for. It was a tiger reserve, but there were no tigers there at present. So, all we could had prayed was for leopard and cheeteah.
K lets first, enter the jungle
Now let the pics speak a few things.
That's sambhar
Now that's maa ka pyar
No, we dint got to see any leopard or cheetah either. We just saw footprints of hyna /* as per the driver*/. And apart from the above animals, we got to see neelgai, jackal and wildboars. I cant tell u how many birds we saw. Well, but i must say more than the animals, we enjoyed the landscape. This was first of its kind, atleast for me. It was really amazing when we climed the hill, in gypsey, on so called 'kuchcha raasta'. Somewhere there was so much slope that we had to get down and push the vehicle up.
And as we got to the top, there we had a place called "Pandupol" /* I hope its spelt correctly*/. For that we had to walk about 2 kms further upwards. But it was really worth it. Its actually a waterfall, but there's no water at present coz of the hot weather.
There we enjoyed a little bit of rock climbing. From there we returned back to the base quickly coz of time constraints. The driver took us from the "pukka raasta" this time, so we dint had much chances to get to see laopard or something, u can see them only while you are driving on "kuchcha raasta".
Back to the base at 1130 hrs. We all were hungry, we had just a cup of coffee since morning. So, next destination, some kinda dhaba. But this one was really difficult. We also planned to see forts in Alwar as well. This was a good news for some of us and a bad news, atleast for me, the fort remain closed for public on sundays. Yeah, after 5 hr journey, then a night out playing mafia, and then the safari, without a break, it was all really taxing. Ok, lets move on to our next stop. There were no dhabas around, before we got to a Rajasthan Tourism resort. It was around 1300 hrs, between Sariska and Alwar, built near a lake. We got our tummies filled /* well, not exactly*/ and then we went for boating in the lake. We initially planned to visit this lake a day before, but we missed it on the way that time. So, here we go three pedal boats. We planned boating, but it seemed we did rafting when we got out.
And even here, not to forget the beautifull landscape. Yeah, this is Rajasthan, our beautiful Rajasthan.
Well, after the boating-cum-rafting we were really tired and on sunday we have no other option, everything is closed in alwar, the forts and the museum. So, only option, our hostel sweet hostel, Pilani. We got back at around 2000 hrs.
What an amazing trip it was. Hey, the thrill and adventure was far more than the description. U cant expect artistic description from me atleast. Some of my friends enjoyed "Mafia" the most, But I really enjoyed the park, yeah, landscape more than those herbivores and the jackal.
Or in simple words it was : TARGET ACCOMPLISHED SUCCESSFULLY.
This, no doubt, was a big HIT.
My sincere thanks Rwitajit, for the brilliant snaps. // I have 512MB of the stuff

Holi+Homecomin+Fest=$$&*#@$%
Never try to get the results out of nowhere. B'coz how so ever hard u may try, other people or circumstances may not support. And in the end that maynot be disappointing for you, but mayb for the result. N that disappointed result will sue you for the flop show /* **on grounds emotional distress, mental trauma and character assassination*/. N dat will b really frustruating.Yeah, i m indeed frustruated. This is rare. Well, I think i missed the holi at hostel. Bt i cant help, parents called me home on this festival n i had to follow. N yeah, find of the trip : Gautam can also work. Whenever i m around him, he never wrks, bt in my absence he had to, n he did. I'll put gautam's blog link soon, but now, lemme post his photo.

Just read on.................
- Ok, lemme start, first and the most imporatnt things, there is no restriction on attendance. And that is a damn big advantage. Though some of my friends disagree, they feel that they could perform better if they are forced to attend classes, but i dun think so. There's noting to force us to go to the lecture threatre. I do for the subject which i like (well, at times i m forced to go for a gud lukin grade sheet, but dats rare), but rarely go against my will. And we do get the lecture slides on intranet, so absence is never that a big problem.
- And here we do get to make our own timetable,in the beginnin of semester.
- Apart from that, I am sure that our mess food is far better than any other respectable engineering college's mess. And campus life here rocks. Hostels rooms, may not be better, but are not bad at all. So what if we cant go to PVR, we have screening of movies in our audi regularly. Today's Rang de Basanti, yeah a bit late, but its really fun with all junta of your own.
- There's no ragging here. Yeah, some may thing of missing all the masti of ragging, but teh kinda raging you get in engineering colleges hostels, it wud really better to be away from it.
- In acads n infrastucture, BITS has VLSI design lab, only two labs of such kind are there in our country, the other in IISc, banglore. Also, traning system is better. Well, i dun vat to get in those technical details
Well, for those who have still no figured it out, my blood group is B+.

randomize(past_month);
- 28-02-2006, Tuesday: Unexpected holiday, cause : local municipal elections. Effect : Need not be explained. My status : no plans for the day. Got up at 8 in the morning, wingies still asleep, roomie out of station. Plan : ( the most unexpected one) Clean and Organize the room. It was really difficult to follow such a plan, especially if u r used to live with all the chaos in and around the room for past 8 months. Result : ( most unexpected++) I succeded. But i took pity on those spiders and decided to live in symbiosis with them. ( i hope this is grammatically correct.)
- 27-02-2006, Monday : Got probabilityand statistics test paper, above av. N finally got a cover for my below av. phy marks. Told phy marks to mom, after waitin for prob n stats for more than 10 days.
- 17-02-2006, Friday : Yeah, i knew we can do it. Finally, our model started working. It just needs a lil' improvement, but its working.
- 28-02-2006, Tuesday, 0000 hrs : My sidey, gautam's b'day. I orderd the cake in the evening (yeah, on 27th). Everthing was ready. I was prepared for sidey bumps, bt i was spared, even in absence of my roomie and the other sidey.
- 14-02-2006, Tuesday : Happy Valentines day. Nothin special on the day for BITSians. Elsewhere u could have enjoyed the day, even if you dont have a gf, but this Pilani, no hopes with just 10% girls in the campus and i cant describe the world outside the campus, its been long since i stepped out of the campus.
- 03-02-2006, Monday : Test series - I starts. Still v are confused whether earlier system vid one midsem was better or this one vid two test series.
